A 5th-generation Arizonan and descendant of a state-recognized Arizona Pioneer Family, Bill ‘Eli’ Owenby carries forward a legacy of resilience, dedication, and innovation. His family’s cattle brand, ONB, not only represents his roots but also serves as the foundation for his personal brand—an homage to both his heritage and his vision for the future; rooted in legacy, driven by innovation.

Bill graduated with Honors from the University of Arizona, earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Minor in Sociology while receiving the All-Arizona Academic Team scholarship. He went on to earn his Master’s in Community Counseling from Arizona State University, graduating with High Honors from its CACREP-accredited program. He later pursued doctoral studies in Counselor Education & Supervision but, due to institutional barriers and faculty sabotage, was unable to complete the PhD. However, undeterred to let the university win, he spent 7 years finding a new program that would permit a transfer, he pivoted and earned his Doctorate in Educational Leadership (EdD), applying his expertise to mental health, clinical supervision, and education reform.

A highly accomplished clinician, educator, and thought leader, Bill specializes in holistic, integrative therapy approaches, advanced trauma work, and post-traumatic growth. He has worked extensively in nonprofit integrative healthcare, providing therapy, clinical supervision, and consultation. He is also a recognized international presenter and award-winning author, with published works on Sandtray Therapy, Martial Arts in Mental Health, Clinical Supervision, Ethical and Clinical Dilemmas with Medically Assisted Suicide, Self-Efficacy, Multicultural Counseling Competency development, Leadership, and Emotional Support Animals. His Pulitzer Prize-nominated book on Emotional Support Animals has been widely regarded as a seminal contribution to the field where clinicians needed guidance and he provides it in a clear, comprehensive manner to protect themselves, assist clientele, and protect the most important part of this  equation  —  the animals.

Bill has co-authored with Katherine before on Animal-Assisted Therapy, Marriage & Cohabitation in Therapy Practice, and the Use of Inspirational Quotes in Therapy. Their shared passion for mental health and education has not only strengthened their relationship but also allowed them to make meaningful contributions to the field.

Bill has been honored with such awards as the CSI International Most Outstanding Doctoral Student in 2016, numerous local CSI chapter awards for Research and Clinician, the 2022 Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s 40 Under 40 Award, and the Man of the Year Award.

Beyond his professional and academic achievements, Bill has an illustrious athletic background, achieving 2x World Champion titles in Karate Kata and Kumite, 2x National Cycling Champion, and 12x State Cycling Championships. He was once ranked 38th in the world as a competitive cyclist, was a nationally ranked swimmer, and held pre-qualified MENSA status. Bill does not shy away from pursuits, competition, and the impossible.

Today, Bill balances his private practice, writing, consultation work, and leadership roles while embracing his love for history, advocacy, and innovation. He resides just outside Tucson, Arizona, with his brilliant co-captain and life partner, Katherine, and their two mischievous cats, Waffle and Pancake.

With a relentless drive to elevate mental health practice, challenge outdated industry norms, and inspire new generations of clinicians, Bill continues to leave an indelible mark on the world—one breakthrough, one book, and one life-changing session at a time.

Katherine Campbell, MAED, NCC, LPC

Katherine Campbell graduated from the University of Arizona with Honors earning a Bachelors of Science in Psychology in 2011. She went on to earn a Masters of Arts in Education in Clinical Counseling from the University of Akron, traveling alongside Bill in his PhD adventure there.

Katherine has been in practice since 2016, working in various settings including the National Suicide Hotline in Ohio, an IOP program in Dallas, Texas, a member of an Assertive Community Team (ACT) in Tucson Arizona, and for the last 5 years in a community integrated health non-profit agency as a outpatient therapist.

She is well trained in trauma-informed and processing approaches, a Nationally Certified Counselor, an EMDR therapist, a Flash Technique therapist, a Licensed Professional Counselor with Supervisor status, a Licensed Associate Addiction Counselor, and mental health advocate with almost a decade of experience helping individuals navigate trauma, addiction, and various mental health challenges. A passionate integrator of evidence-based therapies, she works with clients in their transformative healing journeys.

Katherine is also a published author and speaker, contributing to influential texts on mental health modalities such as in this Encyclopedia, a co-authorship in the SAGE Multicultural, Social Justice, and Advocacy Encyclopedia, and is dedicated to advancing trauma-informed care and integrative healing practices complementing whole health with personal needs.

Her expertise and dedication earned her the 2021 Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce 40 Under 40 Award, reflecting her commitment to innovation in the field. We joke constantly that she earned this award before Bill.

Today, Katherine balances her practice with writing, side hustles as a make-up and clothing online influencer, content creation, working out, and recently completed a 10-month leadership training. She resides just outside Tucson, Arizona, with her co-captain and life partner, Bill, and their two mischievous cats, Waffle and Pancake.
